J.Co Donuts sweetens Christmas in Bohol

Probably the most anticipated entry for 2017, it doesn’t come as a surprise that J.Co Donuts’ opening last December 8 created a major buzz, resulting to a long queue of customers who are excited to have a taste of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing coffee chain. And to perk up the hype, the first 100 customers were in for a special treat as they received a box of three donuts to top their purchase.

But before all the J.Co craze, it was the members of the media as well as local bloggers who indulged in J.Co goodness during the Media Launch last December 7. Various activities were helmed by the brand making the entire event fun-filled and interactive. Members of the media were not only treated to the J.Co experience through the overflowing selection of donuts, drinks, and coolers but also through games and discussions.

A discussion on the J.Coffee conducted by one of the brand’s J.Coffee expert allowed members of the media to discover the different coffee beans that create J.Co’s array of coffee blends. A must try is their JCoccino, the coffee chain’s signature blend concocted by J.Co’s owners. This is, of course, best paired with their Most Wanted donut, the Alcapone.

Guests were also challenged to create some latte foam art. Three volunteers, including Bohol Bloggers Collective’s very own blogger Jhuriz and vlogger Vence, were taught how to pour like a pro and create a latte heart. In the end, Jhuriz was adjudged to have created the best latte art among the three and was declared a winner.

Attendees were also given an overview of the magic behind J.Co’s quirky-named, soft bite donuts. Compared to other brands which are cake doughnuts, J.Co’s doughnuts are yeast raised — leavened with dry yeast to create lighter, fluffier, chewier but flavourful doughnuts. Apart from the process of creating their shell and ring doughnuts, J.Co only uses the best ingredients sourced from different parts of the world such as their chocolates from Belgium, almonds imported from California, and matcha straight from Japan.

After that informative discussion was a teach on how three of J.Co’s favorite donuts are made: the Nutcracker, the Oreology, and of course, the Alcapone.  Of course, members of the media were given a chance to get their hands on it.

Wishing to get the perfect fix of doughnut and drink? The J.Co team offers a suggested combo to best enjoy their menu offerings. Their famous JCoccinno (unsweetened) is best paired with all doughnuts with nuts (e.g. Alcapone) for a nutty aftertaste, while fruit donuts are best paired with either the strawberry yogurt frappe or the avocado frappe to accentuate the flavors. On the other hand, glazed donuts are best paired with black coffee for the perfect balance of sugary sweet and coffee bitterness.

The concept by Indonesian entrepreneur Johnny Andrean has come a very long way. From its first branch in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2005, J.CO Donuts and Coffee has left footprints in Malaysia, Singapore, and in the Philippines with the newly opened branch in Tagbilaran City the 45th store in the country and the very first in the province. Sporting a rather new look different from its trademark color scheme, the Tagbilaran Black Store highlights J.Co’s coffee shop flare. Nonetheless, it still retains the full character of J.Co as a brand: fun, dynamic and a story that’s worth sharing.
